Kisoro District is located in the extreme South Western Uganda and shares a boundary with the Democratic Republic of Congo and the Republic of Rwanda. We at 4×4 Car Hire Uganda, we can deliver the car in Kisoro. Kisoro is about 550 kilometers from Kampala city.

The common means of traveling to Kisoro is through taking bus coaches which can cost anywhere between USD 10-20. There are several bus companies that operate on the Kisoro – Kampala route. Some of these companies are Jaguar, Bismarkan, Horizon and the Post B.

A self-drive safari is unique way to explore Uganda on your own and in your time. Kisoro is home to the Mountain Gorillas found in Mgahinga National Park and Bwindi Impenetrable National Park. It is bordered by the Republic of Rwanda to the South, the Democratic Republic of Congo to the West, Kanungu District to the North and Rubanda District to the East.

The district comprises of four main ethnic groups of people, namely the Bafumbira, Bakiga, Banyarwanda and Batwa. Kisoro is home to the Mountain Gorillas found in Mgahinga National Park. Transfer from Kisoro town to Mgahinga Gorilla National Park

Kisoro town is also near to Mgahinga Gorilla National Park, another home to endangered mountain gorillas and the rare golden monkeys. Like the more famous Bwindi, Uganda’s smallest national park (just 34 sq km) hosts habituated mountain gorillas. But here they sometimes cross the border out of Uganda, and since tour companies can’t guarantee the opportunity to track gorillas, Mgahinga is rarely part of a safari itinerary.

On the other hand, if you’re planning things last minute, permits are sometimes available here when they are impossible to come by at Bwindi. The tracking is usually easier here too, but there are still long hills to climb. Other tourist attractions around the Kisoro region include the snake caves, the Batwa people (pygmies), mount Gahinga hiking, Bird watching, community tours to local schools, churches, villages, and fields where tourists can actively participate in daily activities such as harvesting, milking cows, digging, grinding millet and many more.

Transfer from Kisoro town to Volcanoes National Park

You can rent our 4×4 and cross to Rwanda for mountain gorilla tracking. Protecting the Rwandan portion of the majestic Virunga Mountains, Volcanoes National Park warrants a five-star rating simply for its incredible scenery and the opportunity to track mountain gorillas in the wild, arguably the single most reliably rewarding wildlife experience Africa has to offer. I’ve tracked gorillas more than five times in this park, and every experience was different, but it is always an amazing and unforgettable day out.

Another highlight for wildlife-lovers is a day hike to track a 100-strong troop of habituated golden monkeys. This strikingly marked species is listed as endangered and its main stronghold is the Virunga’s, due to deforestation elsewhere within its restricted range.

Transfer from Kisoro town to Bwindi Impenetrable Forest National Park
