Fascinating Waterfalls in Uganda

The exhilaration of English Prime Minister Winston Churchill quantified a justification “for magnificence, for variety of forms and color, the profusion of brilliant life, flora and fauna, Uganda is the pearl of Africa”. Wasn’t just in vain, but a testimony that availed the narration.

With a number of great pullers, among them are color variations of waterfalls that are spread across the country. Feeling the moist and unconditioned ambiance which is well known to exhibit profuse of the creation. Walking through several waterfalls in Uganda is an amazing and exciting thing, experiencing the moist breathtaking and scenic views remains is an awesome encounter.

The mass of waters dropping off a cliff rapidly, beautiful sceneries and force bargains for a varying feeling and experience that you get when you visit them. All waterfalls in the country have catching activities carried done some are not for the faint-hearted. They provide a refreshing experience for people and those who want to relax, this is the right place to go.

Murchison falls

Arguably Africa’s most powerful falls are located in northern Uganda on the Victoria Nile. The falls works for the branding of the renowned Murchison Falls National Park which is one of Uganda’s most attended tourist destination.

These spectacular Murchison falls are explained by vibrant roars of rapids forcing into a narrow gorge of 7m wide and pouring to 45m long into the untamed rocks forming a stained fizz. The moist splashing that forms a thunderous roar makes Murchison falls really the most attractive.

Below at the bottom forms a calm flow of the Victoria Nile that originates from the stained fizz. The Victoria Nile flow harbor digit of aquatic life and numbers of wildlife from the savannah find rest at the Banks of the flow after a great day of feeding. Among the wildlife to encounter within the Murchison falls include hippopotamus, Nile crocodiles. Other wildlife includes elephants, giraffes, Jackson’s heartbeats, bushbucks, buffalos as the draw at the river banks to draw water among many.

Murchison falls has two viewpoints that ensure the real experience. The top of the fall is where you can reach by vehicle or by hiking from the bottom of the falls. The top is a spectacular view of how the rapids force into the narrow gorge making a thunderous roar. And taking a boat cruise or boat ride to the bottom is a thrilling way to sight the Murchison falls, from the boat ride at the bottom of the falls can take on a hike to the top falls.

Sipi Waterfalls

Ssezibwa falls

Ssezibwa Falls is one of the closest falls to Kampala, located in the Mukono district about 45km east of the Kampala capital. The waterfalls are formed on the well-known Sezibwa River which is believed traditionally to be a river that was just given birth. The historical River Ssezibwa story is quite interesting about its existence in actuality. Baganda people say, a lady who belonged to the Kibe clan (fox clan) called Nakangu gave birth to twins but one of the twins surprisingly was not human but flowing water which accumulated with time and became one of the largest rivers in the country. The woman known as Nakangu named the river Ssezibwa and that’s how it came into existence.

The places hold a lot of ritual practices made by the locals who still believe the river inhabits the spirits and their shrines surrounding the falls where people visit to cleanse their bodies from bad omens.

Waterfalls run over a few quartzite rocks before being detached into two which gives off a good view. Around the Sezibwa waterfalls, there is almost the best serene environment just worthy of a breathtaking and one of the uncrowded places one can visit for a lonely day.

Sezibwa waterfall is a perfect destination to watch for birds watching seeing about 100 bird species and hiking experiences are some of the extra things you have to engage in.

Aruu waterfalls

A treasure from northern Uganda, these brilliant decorated rocky falls are superb. The Falls are traced in Pader district in Northern Uganda just after Gulu district, in the majestic color, visitors have to trek down into the rocky flows for amazing photo shoots and refreshments. On sure wet days, crossing to another pool falls is a rope crossing style that doesn’t enable you sluggishly walkway.

Refreshment at the two younger and mature pools is an amazing swimming experience. The pool Aruu waterfalls are situated along the way to or from Kidepo Valley National Park, and after a long hour of a drive either can have a refreshment moment at the falls. Activities done here include swimming, rock climbing, birding, and nature walks.

Itanda Falls

These are located in Jinja, a well-renowned adrenaline adventure capital of East Africa. The Itanda waterfalls are one of the amazing rapids on the world’s longest River Nile. Adventurous travelers have preferred moments at the falls as the falls have intentioned thrilling adventures including white water rafting, kayaking, and tubing. This falls-only rafting area calls for both first-timers and advanced rafting up to other challenging big four monsters of grade IV and V rafting.

Kisizi waterfalls

Through the landscape rolls, the Kisizi falls that are located in the Rukungiri district on Kyabambe River just deep in the Kigezi hills are raised at a stunning height of 30m. The Kisizi falls are placed inside cool beautiful serene forests. The Kisizi falls are legendary to the people of the surrounding communities, in ancient times the falls were used to punish girls who dared to conceive before mirage. Victims were always set to fall from the cliff of 30m as a way of sending a message to other girls in the community warning them not to dare get pregnant before marriage.

The other time one girl had to be pushed by the brother and father and when time emanated for pushing the girl from the cliff, she held onto both and they fell down the falls these are the sounds that are heard when one visits the falls, the sounds of the family calling onto themselves.

The different activities that can be carried out when one visits the Kisizi fall include sky trail, bird watching, nature walks through the Kisizi falls cave to get a clear view of the falls, hiking and forest walks around the fall.

Mahoma waterfalls

Mahoma falls are located in Ruteete along with fort portal Kamwenge road and they have become a major tourist attraction for those visiting Fort portal. They are found on River Mahoma which was formed due to the volcanic eruptions that took place in that area. Mahoma falls will give you good scenery that is serene and you will be able to carry out the different activities which include biking, birding, rock climbing, and many more other impressive activities.

Amabere cave waterfalls

These are very much catching waterfalls due to the legendary attachments to the Bachwezi dynasty. These waterfalls are not thrilling but their myth of the Bachwezi makes them pause among the most visited and attractive falls in Uganda.

the falls are formed by a cliff of stalagmites which forms a cave with breast live feature, the legendary story here says the king hides here his daughter after cutting off her breast.

Mpanga Falls

The Mpanga falls also called the “Beaton Falls”, the 50m high fall is a magnificent sight that feeds Lake Gorge along the prominent River Mpanga. It rushes through a great cleft in the rift valley’s eastern escarpment towards the lake and also rushes through a rocky chasm of exotic spray forest of cycad, a species endemic to Mpanga Gorge, to the dramatic Mpanga Falls. The gorge encloses the falls and the falls support the lush spray forest.

Other waterfalls

Being gifted by nature, Uganda is endowed with great waterfall encounters among which include, Kalagala waterfalls, Karuma falls along the Victoria Nile, Bujagali falls, Mungiro falls in Semuliki National Park, Nkusi waterfalls that pour through into Lake Albert.
