Charged elephants kills a traveler in Murchison

A Saudi Arabia who was driving through Murchison Falls National was attacked and killed by an elephant in Murchison falls in the Nwoya district. This unfortunate incident happened on Tuesday, January 25th at around 11:00 am.

Mr. Bashir Hangi, the Communications Manager in the press release made this announcement, he noticed that the deceased and his colleagues were traveling in a Toyota Wish motor vehicle No. UBJ17C.

They were in transit from Masindi driving through the park to Arua, they stopped along the way and the deceased went out of the car where an elephant charged and killed him on spot.

The deceased was identified to be a Saudi Arabian nationalist called Ayman Sayed Elshahany.

Mr.Hangi said the matter was reported to Pakwach police and the Uganda Wildlife Authority (UWA) to ensure that the matter is fully investigated.

He assured that the safety of people in all their protected areas remains paramount to them, and appealed to the public especially those transiting through protected areas to take precautions and avoid putting themselves in harm’s way.

“In the meantime, we are reviewing our safety protocols to enhance them to avoid a repeat of such incidence” Hangi added.

And assured the public that national parks are still safe for all visitors.
