Banks in Uganda

Uganda has a list of Banks (Financial institutes) that offer a wider range of financial assistance of lending money to individuals and business, used to save money, money transfer, currency exchange, of which all significance aimed at raising the economic and social life of the area of operation.

Banks and all financial institutions are supervised by the central Bank (Bank of Uganda). The Bank of Uganda holds a sole right having the legal tender to issue banknotes and coins in the country, as well its key role is to also gain and maintain public confidence in the currency.

Subsequently, Currency department is responsible in the designing and ordering of banknotes and coins to meet the country’s demand; this is one of the main functions of the department. Bank of Uganda is also a banker for commercial banks and the government.
