Lake Mburo, Uganda’s Smallest Safari Park

Lake Mburo National Park is located in the South Western part of Uganda characterized with tropical rain forest, Savannah grasslands and some parts covered with swamps. It’s the smallest of Uganda’s Savannah national parks and is located in Kiruhura district, Lake Mburo National Park is situated about 30 kms by road east of Mbarara, the largest city in the sub region.

It is approximately 240kms by road, west of Kampala, Uganda’s capital city, this park is home to 350 bird species, Zebra, impala, eland, buffalo, oribi, Defassa water buck, leopard, hippo, hyena, topi and reed buck. Once continuous with the plains of Northern Tanzania, Lake Mburo National Park hosts diversity found nowhere else in Uganda, its Ruizi River feeds 14 Lakes and wetlands that support abundant herds of antelope.

Acacia woodland is increasingly a major part of the landscape, alongside all the wildlife lake Mburo National Park is also home to the Ankole cattle cared for traditionally by the Bahima pastoralists. The best way to reach Lake Mburo National Park while on your Uganda tour is by use of Kampala – Masaka – Mbarara high way with en-route stop over at the equator for some brief explanations about the equator by officials, photographs and snacks, usually lunch for this journey is provided en-route.

Activities done in Lake Mburo National Park include: –

Game drive. This activity involves moving around the park on your stable top up roof Safari jeep in search of its major touristic features which include Wild animals, Primates and Species. Wild animals in Lake Mburo National Park include Elephants, Buffaloes, Zebras, Leopards, impala, Eland, hyena, primates include Black & White Colobus Monkeys, Blue Monkeys, Red tailed Monkeys, Baboons, vervets, different tree species, different bird species which include African Jacana, blue turaco, rare shoe bill, yellow billed stork and more. Game drive in Lake Mburo National Park is done both during day and night, day game drive costs $20 USD and night game drive costs $30 USD plus park entrance which costs $40 USD per 24 hours.

Nature Walk. This involves moving on ground in a group but usually following the established trails heading into the Jungle and Savannah grasslands or woodlands with interest of experiencing the natural beautiful sceneries. This enables you to get in touch with most of the natural beautiful features which include big tree species, vegetation, wildlife primates, bird Species and more. This activity costs $30 USD per person.

Boat Cruise. This is usually done along the Waters of Lake Mburo National Park and it involves sailing on the waters by use of local canoe which provides you with opportunities of sighting different aquatic species like Hippopotamus, Crocodiles, and different bird species, you can also engage in fishing with the local people who practice fishing on Lake Mburo. This activity costs $15 USD per person to go boat riding on the waters of Lake Mburo.
