Uganda Wildlife Authority (UWA) received a 4.7b accommodation facility built by the government through Ministry of Tourism at Mt. Rwenzori National Park. The camp was handed over to UWA on 15 December, 2024.
The facility is located on 4,500 meters above sea level at a temperature of 2 0C or lower, Elena Camp is the last stop before adventures ascend to Margherita peak, the highest point in Uganda and third in Africa at 5,000m.
The facility can accommodate about 34 tourists, with about 36 support staff including guides and porters. The camp has great amenities like dining room, kitcken, stores, a steady water supply, power and fully furnished accommodations with beds and mattresses.
Elena Camp was built with stunning boardwalks and accompanying safety measures which are set to address the challenge of inadequate accommodation and safety at the mountain.
The facility is also positioning Mt. Rwenzori as one of the top tourist destinations for adventurous travelers.

This stunning magnificent Mountain Rwenzori is located in western Uganda, it’s one of the few UNESCO World Heritage sites covering and area of 995km2 stretching to Congo border.
The park lays in the Albertine Rift Valley and is part of the larger Queen Eliabeth Conservation Area which stretches from districts of Kasese, Bunyangabu, Kabarole, Ntoroko and Bundibugyo.
The park offers the Africa’s most challenging and dramatic hiking experience which is more adventurous than Kilimanjaro and Mt. Kenya which are the highest on the African continent.
