Uganda, Kenya and French embassies attacked in Kinshasa protests

A day after the rebel contest for taking over Goma town in the north Kivu, civilians started resorted to a chaotic riot where they attacked several embassies including that of French, Kenya, Uganda and Rwanda accusing them for causing the Goma scene.

M23 fighters entered Goma on Monday declared advancement over the town, people protesting in Kinshasa against the M23 rebels‘ advance into the eastern city of Goma.

Vandalized embassies and piles of burning tires marked chaotic demonstrations in the Democratic Republic of the Congo’s capital Kinshasa to denounce the “inaction” of the international community over the conflict raging in Goma, the main city in the country’s east.

Hundreds of chaotic mobs on foot or motorcycles are responding on Tuesday to the “Paralyze the City” call of a youth collective gathered in the upscale district of Gombe in the north of Kinshasa and targeted the embassies of Rwanda, Uganda, Kenya, France, Belgium and the United States.

The rioters are accusing Rwanda and Uganda for actively supporting the armed group M23 which, after a lightning offensive in North Kivu province with the support of Rwandan troops, entered the regional capital, Goma, on Sunday.

Demonstrators said they going to finish with Rwanda,” shouted one demonstrator to applause in front of the building that houses the Rwandan embassy in Kinshasa.

The perimeter wall of the French embassy was also set on fire. Graffiti on it read: “Betrayal over a long period of time let’s end it now.”

Protesters also targeted the embassies of Belgium and the US, and looted the Ugandan mission, taking away furniture on motorcycles and taxis.

Members of special units of the Congolese National Police stand guard were seen in videos chasing away protestors in front of the French embassy.

The Congolese government expressed regret over the “vandalism committed by the demonstrators”.

The protesters block a road with burning tires, they broke lights and several things especially during demonstrations in Kinshasa.
