Gen Katumba Wamala the cabinet Minister of Works and Transport, on 5th July, announced the President’s appointment of the new Uganda Airline Chief Executive Officer Ms. Jenifer Bamuturaki.
President Yoweri Museveni’s appointment of Ms. Bamuturaki as the boss of the national carrier comes shortly after the suspension and finally expulsion of the previous boss in 2020.
Ms. Bamuturaki has been occupying this same position as the acting CEO on the President’s directives from 2020.
“Reference is made to a letter Ref. No. PO/28 dated April 24, 2022, from H.E the President of the Republic of Uganda in respect of the subject matter above copy attached for ease of reference). The purpose of this letter is to bring the directive to your attention for implication,” Gen Katumba said.
Ms. Bamuturaki is replacing Mr. Cornwell Muleya who was suspended from the position for several cases and later was sacked from the position.
The Former Airline boss Mr. Muleya on June 21, 2022, was arrested for allegedly disobeying the Inspectorate of Government (IG) orders before he was arraigned in court a day later and released on bail.
Now, the newly appointed Airline boss is tasked with the responsibility to revamp the national carrier to superior elevations in a busy East Africa.
Ms. Bamuturaki, with about 30 years of experience as a marketing consultant in the airline, hospitality, and travel industries, earlier had worked as the airline’s commercial director when it had just resumed operations in 2019 but was pushed out by the board for alleged under performance.
Also, she worked in the commercial department of the defunct Air Uganda for seven years and as a country manager for East African Airlines.
With such a reputation in the aerobic industry, she pushed the Uganda Airline network to connect to the rest of the routes in the US, the UK, and Chine.
