With a team of 18 athletes to the world championship that took place in Eugene Oregon in the United States that started on 15th July to 24th July 2022.
Three of the athletes including Joshua Chepetegei, Jacob Chelimo, and Chelimo jammed Uganda hooked in the 16th position with 3 medals with one Gold, and 2 bronze that was won in the long-distance races of both men’s 10,000m and 5,000m.
The IAF and Olympic 10,000m champion Joshua Cheptegei scooped the gold medal after securing the front position.
Cheptegei went into the race with the intention to defend the medal and successfully retained his intentions and won one of the paciest races of the season within the time of 27:27.43 in a tactical form.
After the Kenyan Stanley Waithaka, Mburu finished second to take the silver with a time of 27:27:90, and Uganda Jacob Chelimo scooped the 3rd position winning the bronze medal within the time of 27:27.93.
And on the 24th of July, Oscar Chelimo scooped the 3rd position in the men’s 5,000m finals taking home a bronze medal. Chelimo splinted in the time of 13:10.20 finishing behind Norway’s Jakob Ingebrigtsen who led the race.
The three medals helped Uganda to finish in the 16th position and 4th on the African continent after Ethiopia who got 10 medals (4 gold, 4 silvers, and 2 bronze), Kenya with 10 medals (2 gold, 5 silver, and 3 bronze), and Nigeria who got 2 medals (1gold and 1 silver).
Uganda won gold and silver in a tactical way, during 10,000m, Stephen Kissa was a man behind setting the pace for both Cheptegei and Kiplimo. And during the 5,000m, the champion himself offered to set the pace for Chelimo’s bronze.
The United States of America scooped the highest number of medals with a total of 33, followed by Ethiopia and Jamaica, and Kenya.

Women: Immaculate Chemutai (Marathon), Stella Chesang, Mercycline Chelangat (10,000m), Ester Chebet (5,000m), Peruth Chemutai (3000m Steeplechase), Winnie Nanyondo (1,500m), Halimah Nakaayi (800m), Sheda Leni (400m).
Men: Felix Chemonges, Fred Musobo, Jackson Kiprop (Marathon), Joshua Cheptegei, Jacob Kiplimo, Stephen Kissa (10,000m), Peter Maru, Oscar Chelimo (5,000m), Ronald Musagala (1,500m), Tartis Orogot (200m).
