According to the press statement released on 25th November, 2024, Uganda Airline signed a short-term lease agreement with with DAT, a Lithuanian Airline for their Airbus A320-200 to enhance its operations during the winter schedules.

The Airbus A320-200 is a mid-range aircraft, 156-seater and a 9.3years old for the DAT Lithuanian Airline.

Reading from the press statement, the short-term wet lease agreement brings additional capacity to the airline as part of efforts to address challenges on key routes and support maintenance schedules for its regional fleet.

The A320-200, equipped with 12 business-class and 144 economy-class seats, will operate on routes to Johannesburg, Kinshasa, Nairobi, Lagos, and Abuja. The aircraft will also help meet increased demand during the festive season, a period marked by heightened leisure and business travel.

“We are delighted to announce this partnership with Lithuanian Airlines, which will support our operations,” said Uganda Airlines Chief Executive Officer, Ms. Jenifer Bamuturaki. “With the previously leased aircraft, we have seen significant growth in demand across our network. With the new lease, we shall continue to increase capacity deployment for the number of seats on specific routes to sustain this demand.”

The lease comes as Uganda Airlines aims to resolve operational limitations caused by capacity constraints and maintain its schedule integrity while some regional aircraft undergo maintenance. Additionally, the airline expects the A320 to improve cargo freighting capabilities for businesses.

Established in 2019, Uganda Airlines serves as the country’s national carrier for passenger and cargo services, contributing to Uganda’s growing connectivity and trade opportunities.
